Minutes – March 12, 2009

Licking County Extension Office

Newark, OH

Present: Jeanne Osborne, Chair; Teresa Funk, Vice Chair; Liz Kinney, Secretary/Treasurer; Cindy Buxton, Communications Director; Marie Bouic (new member), Tim Butcher, Matt Davis, David Drake, Sarah Elvey, Sherry Ferrell, Todd Hicks, Pat Patterson, Mary Roberts, and Julie Townsend.

Minutes were approved by a motion from Tim Butcher with a second by Pat Patterson.

Treasurer’s report was given and there is a balance of $15,125.43 remaining in the account.

Old Business

• Pancake Breakfast that was held March 6 was attended by approximately 127 people.
• Staff Advisory helped out at breaks for December Extension Conference.
• OARDC Staff Council served ice cream at Town Meeting attended by Dr. Gee and Dr. Moser on March 11.
• Executive Committee met with Dr. Linda Martin regarding items discussed at November meeting.
• Cindy and Jeanne are to meet with Carol Poe regarding Day with the Dean.
• Work with Alumni society for Staff Recognition.
• Staff Development (put on hold).
• Meet with Dr. Martin in April.
• Cindy Buxton is developing a “Thank You” note.  Make general.  Will bring back next meeting.  Welcome to new staff note.  What is cost?  State what SAC is and how to get involved.
• The next meeting of CFAES Staff Advisory Council.  Wednesday, May 20, 2009, ATI, hosted by Frances Whited.
• Banquet date is October 29, 2009.

There were no task force break-out sessions.  It was decided members were on multiple committees so that really wouldn’t work.

Tim Butcher talked about what went on at the Pancake Breakfast with the ergonomic chairs, the home preparedness and the chair massages that were given.

Task Force Report

Budget Committee – Funds remaining in account roll over to FY10.

Staff Mentoring – Meet with others that have mentoring programs.  Provide training, use video conferencing, and understand the purpose and duties of being a mentor.  There is money in budget for travelling for members.  It was mentioned about giving mileage reimbursement to counties for travelling in to Lunch and Learn programs.

Day with the Dean – Cindy Buxton and Jeanne Osborne are on committee.

Staff Recognition and Shirley Brooks-Jones Award – Marie Bouic volunteered for that committee. 

VP Advisory Council – Representative to the VP Council, Todd Hicks, said they talked about the budget and extension, how the college is funded and how to save money.

Staff Appreciation – An idea was brought up on getting flash drive and sending out to all CFAES staff.

Wellness – A brainstorming event was initiated by Tim Butcher to help him to come up with ideas on what kind of Wellness (Health) ideas we would like to see initiated by the SAC.

New Business

Second SAC display is in progress.

Continued review of the by-laws was discussed.  Talked about having a designated photographer for taking pictures and making sure they are put in achieves.  Need to write on the back of the pictures of who they are.  Does this need to be put into the by-laws?  More discussion and vote in May?  Teresa Funk and Matt Davis will put a document together.

Cindy Buxton mentioned that Extension Registration System was online.
